1.
a)Tell me the name of the site: www.internationalbeautyexpo.com.au b)What information can be found there: The Sydney Expo 2008 and the Melbourne Expo 2009, dates and venue, visitor registration, travel and accommodation, press releases, contact us
c) Why is it useful? It is useful as it provides visitors with the oppurtunity to source new products & treatments
2. Research the web and find out two concerns within the beauty industry at the moment:
1)"Labor U.S.- The Beauty Industries Ugly Secret", Using safer products in the manicure industry to protect nail salon workers, 89% of which havent been safely tested by an independant agency. They are worried about salon workers particulary coloured women, asian immagrants and asian-american women. They know that these women have health effects, problems with spontaneous abortion and other health problems.
2) The Age, Dec '07 "Burning issue of laser rogues just too hot to handle" Written by William Birnbauer. The laser beauty industry has some practioners who have burnt or scarred their clients and 180 pple have suffered from pigment damage. It will remain unregulated for years after the state government rejected calls. The article goes on to say that Victorias, Ruth Wilson, medical specialists and the beauty industry have pressed for regulation in which anyone can buy a cheap laser or IPL machine and start treating clients without training or safeguards.
It continues with medical practioners saying that beauty therapists "arent very bright" or "scientific" and should be referring clients to medical practioners for skin conditions. Sandra Campitelli from the beauty industry says "the whole area of cosmetic application is a huge income earner for a lot of medicos". So until its regulated the beauty industry and medical industry are blaming one another for the damage it has caused clients. So even though the article was printed in December, 2007, it is still an issue at present time and the future until it is resolved.
